Crows have been important symbols throughout human history and mythology. Crows (and ravens – same family, a bit different) have been symbols of both good omens and bad, messengers of the divine and harbingers of destiny.
Apart from their role in ancient tales, they are amazing and intelligent birds–Protective and fierce: 🔥groups will gang up on predators and chase them away (called mobbing). Socially orientated: ❤️roosting + foraging together, often living together in family groups who help raise the young. They also tend to mate for life. Resourceful and adaptable: 🐛they eat insects, nuts, berries, grains, fish, other birds’ eggs, and even garbage. 🌲They will live in almost any open place where there’s trees and a food source. They strategically drop nuts where cars will drive over them to crack them.
This drawing is inspired by both the mythology and science of crows. The crow and the branches he rests upon appear to be escaping through the starry scenery, onto the whiteness of the paper. This symbolizes his reputation as a messenger between seen and unseen realms.
